This morning during a special called meeting, Goochland County Administrator John Budesky made the announcement to our department that a new Fire-Rescue Chief has been named. The announcement named D. E. "Eddie" Ferguson Jr the new Fire-Rescue Chief. During the last six months, Deputy Chief D. Eddie Ferguson Jr has been the Interim Fire-Rescue Chief succeeding Chief William "Bill" Mackay who retired February 1, 2019. Our search for the "right" person included numerous applicants, but when Mr. Budesky asked the department for the characteristics that we wanted in a new chief, only one candidate stood out.
Chief Ferguson began his career in the Goochland Fire-Rescue department in 1982, when he walked through the door here at Centerville Co.3. Just shy of thirty-seven years later, he takes over the top stop in our department. Throughout his years with Goochland County, Chief Ferguson served at many different levels of leadership to include Lieutenant, Captain, and District Chief with Co. 3. He also served the department as the Deputy Chief of EMS for over a decade. Chief Ferguson's reputation reaches far beyond Goochland County, as he is very well respected in all aspects of the fire-rescue service in the region and across the Commonwealth. Along with his duties as Fire-Rescue Chief, Chief Ferguson continues to be an active participant as a flight medic with Chesterfield Fire & EMS/Virginia State Police's Med-Flight I program.
We are proud to say that our new Chief is truly, one of US! Centerville Co.3 is looking forward to what the future in Goochland County holds with Chief Ferguson. |
